Youth Leadership
February 2010 Program Update
The Youth Leaders continue to meet on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The
photography class continues to be fun and exciting. During the month of
February, the Youth Leaders were given disposable cameras and had to
complete various assignments using the camera. Many of the Youth Leaders
have now received digital cameras and they are being taught how to edit
the photos using the computer.
On Tuesday nights, we were able to finish up the topic of education. to
conclude this topic, Ulish Booker, former NFL player of the Pittsburgh
Steelers came in to talk to the group about the importance of education.
He shared his accomplishments, as well as his disappointments. Ulish spoke
of the importance of having dreams and setting goals. Ulish was able to
express the importance of getting a good education by using his own life
as an example. Although he was an NFL star, one injury ended his football
career. Now he relies on his college education to continue to succeed in
life. During our wrap up session, the Youth Leaders spoke of now accepting
the importance of education beyond high school.
The Youth Leaders will host a Health Fair at the end of April. They are
quickly gathering information and contacting agencies who may want to
participate.
There is an excitement in the air with the Youth Leaders, and we look
forward to all the activities the Spring will bring.
Youth Leadership Upcoming Events
The Youth Leaders will continue to meet on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
throughout March and April> Keep in mind the following dates:
- Tuesday March 9 and March 16- Guest Speaker Annie Horowitz (Women
and Families Center)
- Thursday March 11-April 15 Youth Leaders will meet to plan the
Health Fair
- Saturday April 10- Youth Leaders will participate with Quinnipiac
University "Big Event"- volunteers will come to Farnam
Neighborhood House to spruce up the play areas.
- Friday April 23 and Saturday April 24- Farnam's Youth Leadership
Health Fair- to be held at Farnam Neighborhood House (more details to
be posted)
- Tuesday May 11- Youth Leadership Awards Ceremony 5:00-7:00 p.m.
